Nathan Falter

Bio
Nathan Falter co-owns Springfield Pottery with his wife Jennifer. He earned his BFA in ceramics and drawing from Missouri State University, an MFA in sculpture and ceramics from the University of Delaware, and is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Art at Missouri State University.

Nathan’s work can be found in several galleries and private collections both regionally and internationally. Nathan is both a potter and sculptor who enjoys making both functional pots and large sculptural pieces. Nathan tries to balance the sculptural potential of the objects with the requirements for everyday use. His work appears in The Ceramic Design Book (Lark Press, 1998), and in 500 Pitchers (Lark Press, 2006).

Opening Springfield Pottery in 1998 and providing a source of quality ceramic education for the community has been the realization of a dream come true.

Artist Statement
I am primarily focused on the relationship a person develops with the pottery they use on a daily basis. Because of this use, certain rules apply: durability, ergonomics, and design with a regard to function.

Applying these rules/fundamentals to my ideas about form and surface and my desire to decorate and accentuate, produces a balanced sensibility.
