
New Class Session 2012
Week of Jan 9th - Week of March 1st
We are now accepting enrollment for our next session of classes. This next session will begin the week of January 9th and run through the week of March 1st. Students come once a week to their scheduled three hour class time. Functional Pottery and Hand building classes are available. Each class meets for eight weeks. All skill levels are welcome and no prior experience is ever required. Class fee is $175 and includes all tools, materials, and firings. Spots fill up quickly, so call the studio at 417-864-4677 to inquire about the various times and days available.

Springfield Pottery will host: Dryden Wells; featuring the work of ceramic artist and Missouri State University instructor, Dryden Wells. Dryden Wells, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, first completed a BFA in Ceramics and a BSED (K-12) at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. In the Fall of 2005, Wells moved to Lubbock, Texas, to pursue an MFA degree in Ceramics at Texas Tech University, which he completed Spring of 2008. Wells, having previously been a resident artist at the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China, during the summers of 2006 and 2007, was hired in 2008 as the Design Studio Manager of The Pottery Workshop to assist in the maintenance and development of the Design Studio as well as to continue the development of his own work. In 2011, Wells returned to the United States where he is currently filling a one year sabbatical replacement at Missouri State University, teaching Ceramics.
Over the past few years, Wells has continued to exhibit his work both nationally and internationally. Recent select exhibitions include: Feats of Clay XX (2007); Combined Talents: Florida International Exhibition (2007); Ceramic Sculpture National Juried Exhibition (2007); Clay on the Wall: 2007 Clay National; 2010 China-China: Shanghai World Modern Ceramics Art Show, Series 1, Porcelain in Contemporary Discourse (2008); 宁波当代陶艺展 - Ningbo Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition–Season 3 (2009); Peer Influence (2009); Pouring Permanence (2011); and Response I and II (2011). Along with having images of work selected for publications such as, 500 Sculptures; 500 Tiles; 500 Platters, Plates & Chargers (Lark Books, 2008) and the February 2008 issue of Ceramics Monthly, Wells has had work purchased into public and private art collections including, six pieces by the Shanghai Museum of Arts & Crafts, one piece by the Las Cruces Museum of Art, New Mexico and one piece by The Ningbo Museum of Art. Dryden is a Missouri native who spent the last several years working as the in Jingdezhen, China.
This work will be on display in the exhibition gallery at Springfield Pottery Nov. 4- 26. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Friday, Oct 7, from 6 pm – 10 pm during the First Friday Art Walk.
Artist Workshop with Dryden Wells: Nov. 5, 9-5PM at the studio On Saturday, Oct. 8, Springfield Pottery will offer a demonstration workshop led by Dryden Wells as well as an Artist Talk on his time in China. The workshop will run from 9am -5pm and take place in the studio classroom.
